Here it is, boys and girls, the big day. September 7th, 2007. Adam Green's slasher Hatchet opens in 70+ theaters across the country and it's time to show our support. If you're sick of remakes, sick of sequels, and you just want to see some good, old-fashioned 1980s-style blood-and-gory fun up on the big screen where it belongs, find the nearest theater playing the movie and get there. With director Adam Green’s slasher film coming out in limited release on Friday, September 7th, now's as good as time as any to meet the Hatchet fodder: those poor innocent (and not-so-innocent) victims who take a Louisiana swamp tour right into the clutches of mutilated killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). Anchor Bay has released a new poster for their upcoming theatrical release Hatchet. The new art isn't that different than the old art; the main differences are the tagline at the top ("It's not a remake, it's not a sequel...") has been changed to Harry Knowles' quote about Victor Crowley and the axe has been subtly altered to increase its impressiveness.

Hatchet comes out in limited release on September 7th. Find out where you can see it at the official Hatchet website.

If you head over to Bloody-Disgusting.com, they have a list of over fifty theaters in seventeen cities where Adam Green's slasher film Hatchet will definitely be playing coming September 7th. I've said it before, but it needs to be said again -- while the recent spate of remakes and sequels is not necessarily a bad thing, it has become a little overkill. That's why we're looking forward to Hatchet, Adam Green's R-rated slasher film, which promises good, old-fashioned thrills and chills, plus some improvements on some of the less appealing aspects of the slasher. Robert Englund is one of the legends of modern horror. The name "Freddy Krueger" is all the introduction he really needs, but his contributions to the genre extend far beyond that, not only as an actor, but as an enthusiast. We caught up with him at San Diego Comic-Con International while he was promoting Adam Green's upcoming slasher film Hatchet, in which he has a small role.

Director Adam Green's Hatchet is making waves in the horror community more for what it isn't than what it is: it's not a remake, it's not a sequel, and it's not PG-13. It's an honest-to-gosh R-rated slasher movie, starring honest-to-gosh horror icons Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Tony Todd, about a group of tourists who run afoul of  Victor Crowley (Hodder), a deformed killer who haunts the bayous of Louisiana. The film's fans have built the "Hatchet Army" to show their support for fresh material on the silver scream. Television star Milo Ventimiglia could be seen in a Hatchet Army t-shirt during the "Heroes" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and after witnessing the Hatchet panel (check out Julia's full report) at the same convention, I'm ready to get a shirt for myself.(read more...)

Writer-director Adam Green is using San Diego Comic-Con 2007 to get the word out about his new R-rated slasher film, Hatchet, which is being touted to signal the return of “Old School American Horror”. With a planned theatrical release on September 7th to only 80 theaters nationwide, this Anchor Bay production is already making waves in the film festival circuit,  winning awards at both Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal and the Austin Fantastic Fest.(read more...)
