Just as he did in 2007, Robert Englund sojourned to San Diego Comic-Con this year to talk about his latest projects, including Zombie Strippers and Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer. Zombie Strippers, a humorous and irreverent callback to 1970s exploitation cinema, will be released on DVD by Sony on October 28th. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, a horror-comedy about a plumber who fights monsters, will be out in a limited theatrical release starting this month.

Classic-Horror had the opportunity to spend a few minutes speaking with this legendary horror icon about his latest forays into the genre. In addition to discussing his current projects, Englund was also more than happy to offer his insight on current filmmaking practices, his legacy as a horror icon and, of course, his wealth of experience in the genre.(read more...)

Variety.com reports that Robert Englund's horror project The Vij (previously reported as The Viy) is set to go with Englund in the director's chair and Christopher Lee in a lead role. The film is based on Nikolaj Gogol's novel, which follows a young priest who is manipulated by an evil genie into committing murder and falling in love with a witch who is not who she appears to be. The book was previously adapted as 1968's Viy and it also served as an inspiration for Mario Bava while he developed Black Sunday (1960).(read more...)

Fangoria has some really interesting news regarding Robert Englund's next project. He'll be directing an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's short story "The Viy". Gogol's tale served as Mario Bava's main inspiration for Black Sunday. Englund told Fangoria that he hoped to convince horror icon Christopher Lee to star in the film, which begins filming in Italy next month.

Robert Englund is one of the legends of modern horror. The name "Freddy Krueger" is all the introduction he really needs, but his contributions to the genre extend far beyond that, not only as an actor, but as an enthusiast. We caught up with him at San Diego Comic-Con International while he was promoting Adam Green's upcoming slasher film Hatchet, in which he has a small role.

Writer-director Adam Green is using San Diego Comic-Con 2007 to get the word out about his new R-rated slasher film, Hatchet, which is being touted to signal the return of “Old School American Horror”. With a planned theatrical release on September 7th to only 80 theaters nationwide, this Anchor Bay production is already making waves in the film festival circuit,  winning awards at both Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal and the Austin Fantastic Fest.(read more...)
