Landmark Loew's Jersey theater in Jersey City, NJ has some exciting screenings lined up for this coming weekend, starting October 23rd at 8:00PM with a 35mm print of Brian DePalma's Carrie and continuing October 24th with a  showing of George Waggner's The Wolf Man at 4:00PM and then Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby at 7:30PM. Tickets are $6 per screening ($4 for seniors age 65 and older), but combo packages are available for those who want to take in multiple films. Universal has released the trailer for their upcoming remake The Wolfman to Yahoo! Movies. Well, they call it a trailer. I call it a plot summary. While it's exhilarating to see so much of the original 1941 The Wolf Man in place (Larry Talbot having an American accent, the gypsy woman, the Welsh setting), it also feels like all of the elements that are new to this version have been spelled out. Under my vidder alias "Jetpack Monkey", I recently created a fanvid for Universal's classic monster movies, set to Rob Thomas's "Ever the Same." I chose the song because I wanted something modern and poppy to create a juxtaposition with the Gothic imagery (in point of fact, I really kind of hate the song). I've embedded it below.

Entertainment Weekly has posted an interview with makeup effects wizard Rick Baker on their website, where they discuss the ins and outs of making Benicio del Toro into a werewolf for Universal's remake of their 1941 classic The Wolf Man. Accompanying the interview are two sweet pictures of del Toro in makeup. I have to say, at least they have the look down -- there's a clear lineage from the old school look, but it's been updated to utilize modern sensibilities and techniques.

Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Jurassic Park III) has replaced Mark Romanek on Universal's remake of the 1941 horror flick The Wolf Man. Johnston was selected from a shortlist of directors that included Brett Ratner (Red Dragon), James Mangold (Identity), Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters) and Frank Darabont (The Mist). The Wolf Man, which is budgeted at $85 million with an additional $15 million from tax breaks for shooting in the UK, will begin filming in March.

Universal's remake of The Wolf Man is currently sans a director, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mark Romanek has left the production due to disputes over the final cost of the film. Although the film is budgeted at a not-unimpressive $100 million, Romanek was requesting more money. Since Universal is aiming for an audience-limiting R-rating for the film, his requests were denied. The studio is currently seeking a new director, but due to the Writer's Strike, anybody coming on to the production will be unable to do any rewrites to the script. They will have to work with the screenplay developed by Romanek and Sleepy Hollow scribe Andrew Kevin Walker as-is.

Stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, as well as makeup artist Rick Baker, are still attached to the film. The Wolf Man follows a man (Del Toro) who returns home only to be bitten by a werewolf.

ShockTillYouDrop.com received word today that Rick Baker, FX maestro behind An American Werewolf in London, has signed on to create the werewolf makeup for Mark Romanek's upcoming The Wolf Man, a remake of the classic Universal horror film. Filming on The Wolf Man begins in December. The movie, starring Benicio Del Toro as Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr's original role) and Anthony Hopkins, has a projected release date of November 14, 2008.
