"Diary of the Dead" Star Shawn Roberts Interview

Shawn Roberts

Diary of the Dead, George A. Romero's latest zombie opus, opens in limited release on Friday, February 15th. We managed to catch up with one of the film's stars, Shawn Roberts. No stranger to the Dead series, Roberts previously appeared as the doomed Mike in the first section of Land of the Dead. Now he's back, this time playing a member of a team of filmmakers in the middle of making a zombie movie when the dead really do start rising. The crew hits the road, trying to document the outbreak even as they run for their lives.(read more...)

"Diary of the Dead" After Valentine's Day

Diary of the Dead Poster #1

I usually keep personal information out of these news stories, but in this case, I'm going to make an exception. Bloody-Disgusting announced that The Weinstein Company will be releasing George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead in theaters on February 15th, 2008. Why is this important to me, personally? That's my 25th birthday, and a very good present indeed. And it wasn't even on my Amazon wishlist!

Vocal Cameos A-Plenty in "Diary of the Dead"

George A. Romero's new zombie film Diary of the Dead will contain cameos by several recognizable names, but don't look for familiar faces. According to a feature in USA Today, Stephen King, Quentin Tarantino, Simon Pegg, Wes Craven, and Guillermo del Toro will all lend their voices to Diary. Given Romero's focus on media in Diary ("I thought it would be cool to go back to Day 1, when it all starts, and lay media stuff on top," Romero told USA Today), my guess is that we'll be hearing these voices from televisions and radios.

Diary of the Dead makes its world premiere Saturday as part of the Midnight Madness program at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film has no United States distributor yet, but we expect that to change after the premiere.

New Stills from George A. Romero's "Diary of the Dead"

Bloody-Disgusting has posted five new stills from George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead. You can see all of them here (link will open a new window to Bloody-Disgusting.com). Diary of the Dead resets the clock on Romero's Dead series, following a group of filmmakers caught at the beginning of the zombie outbreak. The film makes its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 8th.

Spotlight on George Romero at SDCC 2007

George A. Romero

The horror highlight of San Diego Comic-Con's opening day of panels was Spotlight on George A. Romero. Hosted by Max Brooks, author of bestselling novel World War Z, George Romero discussed everything from why he makes zombie movies to the loss of the Night of the Living Dead copyright to his upcoming production, Diary of the Dead. The event even included a surprise visit by writer and producer J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5).(read more...)
