Reuters are reporting that remake kings Dimension Films have picked up the rights for a new version of An American Werewolf in London.

The original, written and directed by John Landis, starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American backpackers hiking in the Yorkshire moors. After the pair are attacked by a werewolf, Naughton ends up terrorizing London while Dunne becomes a reanimated corpse, looking for ways for Naughton to kill himself and stop the curse.

The producers are reportedly trying to keep the comedy elements of the original, while making the story relevant to contemporary audiences. No writer or director has yet been hired for the new version, although Landis will apparently serve as executive producer.(read more...)

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that French director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs) is close to sealing a deal to write and direct Dimension's planned remake of Clive Barker's 1987 horror movie Hellraiser. Laugier described the remake as "a dream project" and promised that he would not betray Barker's original vision. The original Hellraiser deals with an unfaithful wife who kills to supply her brother-in-law/lover with the blood he needs to reconstitute his body after it was ripped apart by a group of demons known as the Cenobites.(read more...)

As Lee Adama on the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica, Jamie Bamber faces the Cylons, a group of cybernetic beings who are the worst case scenario of man's continued development of increasingly complex technologies. Now, in Joel Soisson's Pulse 2: Afterlife (a sequel to the 2005 Kairo remake, Pulse), he is up against another result of technological expansion -- ghosts that are literally in the machines. In November of 2007, Dimension Films released The Mist, a film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella of the same title written and directed by Academy Award nominated director, Frank Darabont. With a limited budget, a darker ending, and a talented cast, The Mist is a moody, thoughtful modern horror film without an annoying Pollyanna ending.

The film stars Thomas Jane as David Drayton, a commercial artist living in a small town with his wife and son, Billy. After a violent thunderstorm, Thomas and Billy, head to the local supermarket to pick up supplies when an unnatural mist begins to roll into town, preceeded by a frightened neighbor telling stories of dangerous creatures in the Mist. What follows is a story of terror and paranoia, as a group of people, trapped in the supermarket, attempt to survive both the otherworldly creatures lurking in the Mist and the threat of panicked people lurking in their midst.

A couple stranded by a storm find that the weather isn't their only worry in Storm Warning, a new horror-thriller from director Jamie Blanks (Urban Legend), coming to DVD on February 5th, 2008 from Dimension Extreme. Storm Warning received awards for Best Score and Best Special FX at LA Screamfest when it premiered at the festival in October 2007. The DVD will feature the unrated, extended cut of the film with a Dolby 5.1 English soundtrack.(read more...)

Genius Entertainment will release Rob Zombie's Halloween, a remake of the 1978 John Carpenter classic, in separate rated and unrated two-disc special editions on December 18th, 2007. The rated disc will feature the film as it played in the theaters and buyers will have a choice between widescreen and fullscreen. Days before the release of Rob Zombie's newest film, Halloween, the director and rocker has signed a deal with Dimension Films under which he will write and direct two features for the studio.  His manager and producing partner Andy Gould will produce both films. No details are available yet as to what those films may be or if they will even be horror. Zombie said the deal is a "natural step in the evolution of my film career."

Zombie's Halloween, a remake of John Carpenter's seminal slasher film, will open this Friday, August 31st.
