At Collectormania Glasgow, attendee Anthony Stewart Head told SyFyPortal that "Ripper", the long-rumored BBC series featuring his "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" character Rupert Giles, may finally be a go. While certain rights issues still stand in the way -- the BBC still has to get clearance from "Buffy" owner Fox -- they are apparently keen to do the series at this point. BBC Video told ShockTillYouDrop.com that the horror miniseries Jekyll will be released to DVD in America on September 18th. The two-disc set will contain over five hours worth of bonus material, including featurettes and a commentary track. Suggested retail price will be $29.98.

Written by Steven Moffatt (who wrote some of the creepier episodes of the new "Doctor Who"), the series follows Dr. Jackman (James Nesbitt), a resident of modern-day London, who is haunted by his vicious alter ego, Mr. Hyde (also Nesbitt). However, the two have agreed to a compromise -- they have a kind of time-share on Jackman's body and Hyde's actions are rigorously monitored with the latest in high-tech surveillance equipment. Showtime has released a new poster promoting the second season of its serial killer drama "Dexter", which starts September 30th. "Dexter" follows the eponymous character (Michael C. Hall), who by day works for the Miami Police Department as a forensics expert. At night, however, he's a serial killer of criminals, using his sociopathic tendencies in pursuit of vigilante justice.

He sleeps in a freezer, not a coffin.  He gets his blood from his dealer, a guy who works at a blood bank.  He doesn't burst into flames in the sun and he can't be killed with a stake through the heart.  He likes golf, Steve McQueen movies, classic Star Trek and Miles Davis.  That's the modern vampire as seen on the new fall show Moonlight (airing Fridays on CBS at 9PM EST/PST, starting September 28th).

Mick St. John, played by Alex O'Loughlin, is the latest vampire detective to hit primetime TV.  It's a subgenre that most people equate with Joss Whedon's prematurely cancelled Angel.  Executive producer Joel Silver says that Moonlight will not be Angel 2.0.  "It's just a different world," he says.  "There are no demons, there are no other entities.  It's a world where there are vampires, and they're around, and they're living among us.(read more...)

That's not the latest warning from Homeland Security. It's creator/executive producer Eric Kripke talking about the upcoming season of "Supernatural," a show which he describes as "two brothers battling the things that go bump in the night in a cool muscle car." He's at San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the show, along with star Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and writers Sera Gamble and Ben Edlund. Jared Padalecki, who plays younger brother Sam Winchester, was filming in Vancouver all night and missed his flight down to San Diego.

Friday afternoon at ComicCon, Joel Silver presented a look at Moonlight, a new vampire detective show that premieres on CBS this fall. (Fridays, 9 pm.)

The show focuses on Mick (Alex O'Loughlin, The Shield), a vampire who was turned by his wife Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) on their wedding night sixty years ago and still hasn't forgiven her. He now works as a private investigator and refuses to drink from living people. Internet reporter Beth (Sophia Myles, Doctor Who) meets Mick at a crime scene (unaware that she had met him previously as a small child) and he becomes her protector.

Friday evening at the San Diego ComicCon, Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) presented the new show Reaper. Slacker Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison) has always taken the easy route. But on his twenty-first birthday, he discovers his parents sold his soul to the Devil (Ray Wise). Now Sam is a bounty hunter for Hell, capturing souls that escape and sending them back where they belong.

Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have created an irreverent horror-comedy show. In the pilot episode, directed by Kevin Smith, Sam discovers his destiny and develops supernatural abilities. Along with friends "Sock" (Tyler Labine) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez), Sam tracks down a fire demon with the help of a demonic Dirt Devil and a portal to Hell through the DMV.

The Sci Fi Channel is widely renowned for the unique brand of original motion pictures it produces-masterpieces in both script, direction, and visuals.

Okay, so, that's not it at all, but Sci Fi is great for satisfying your corny B-movie craving, and by the looks of their recently announced 2006 lineup of Sci Fi originals, next year will continue their tradition of showing you the most abhorrent-yet-loveable movies since the days of Ed Wood! Here's the list:

* Fire Alien, a tongue-in-cheek film about a fire-breathing alien, produced by William Shatner.

* Gryphon, an epic fantasy about a prince and princess from opposing sides of two warring kingdoms who must join forces to defeat a mystical gryphon conjured by an evil wizard.(read more...)

Fortunately, you read that headline correctly -- America's #1 horror magazine is indeed developing a 24-hour television channel, which surprisingly will debut sometime this month. This splendid news basically came out of nowhere last week, and was a little odd considering the Horror Channel had plans to debut some type of Fangoria-themed show as part of their programming.(read more...)
