On September 9th, 2008, Fox Home Video will release "Fox Horror Classics, Volume 2", a three-disc box set of classic thrillers featuring Chandu the Magician, Dr. Renault's Secret, and Dragonwyck. The set will have a suggested retail price of $19.98. Each film in the set will have a number of special features, including featurettes, still galleries, and restoration comparisons. Fox Home Video will be releasing three long-awaited 1940s horror-thrillers onto DVD in time for Halloween. According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, we can expect to see The Lodger (1944), Hangover Square (1944), and The Undying Monster (1942) on shelves around October 9th, 2007. Curiously, these films are being marketed with Vincent Price's name attached, although his connections to them are tenuous -- he appeared in none of them, but did narrate or perform in radio versions of the same stories. DVD Drive-In has even more DVD cover art for the September 11th explosion of horror DVDs from 20th Century Fox and MGM, including Return of Dracula/The Vampire and The Burning! See it all in their Midnite Movies gallery.

The folks over at DVD Drive-In have posted a treasure chest's worth of covers for the September 11th Midnite Movie releases. The most interesting thing about the images is that it looks like 20th Century Fox is using their distribution deal with MGM to co-opt the Midnite Movies brand-name. DVD Drive-In has more details on Fox Home Video's upcoming The Fly Collection. The box set, which will contain The Fly (1958), The Return of the Fly (1959), and (for the first time ever on home video in the US) The Curse of the Fly (1965). Additionally, DVD Drive-In has learned that David Hedison, star of The Fly, has recorded a commentary track for that film, moderated by David Del Valle of FilmsInReview.com. Del Valle said of the commentary: “David Hedison was in fine form for the duration of the taping. He had not seen the film for years so it was a fresh approach for him and he had fun with it. It was interesting to watch him look at himself as he appeared on film half a century ago.” In addition to the commentary track, the set will include two new featurettes -- one on the making of the films and another on Vincent Price, who co-starred in The Fly and The Return of the Fly.(read more...)

More from the DVD Drive-In folks. In addition to the MGM releases detailed here, Fox will be releasing DVDs of a number of films from its own vaults on September 11, 2007. Included is a double feature of the Amicus Tales from the Crypt (1972) and Vault of Horror (1973), both making their DVD premieres. Other two-in-one deals include Chosen Survivors / The Earth Dies Screaming (the latter directed by Terence Fisher), Devils of the Darkness / Witchcraft, and Blueprint for Murder / Man in the Attic.
