Bloody-Disgusting has posted five new stills from George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead. You can see all of them here (link will open a new window to Bloody-Disgusting.com). Diary of the Dead resets the clock on Romero's Dead series, following a group of filmmakers caught at the beginning of the zombie outbreak. The film makes its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 8th.

The horror highlight of San Diego Comic-Con's opening day of panels was Spotlight on George A. Romero. Hosted by Max Brooks, author of bestselling novel World War Z, George Romero discussed everything from why he makes zombie movies to the loss of the Night of the Living Dead copyright to his upcoming production, Diary of the Dead. Sometimes, we get contacted to do an article to coincide with the release of a theatrical film or DVD. Most of the time, we don't do it because we either don't have any ideas or there are no good ideas for that particular movie. The PR folks for Universal's recent remake of The Hitcher (coming out on DVD May 1st -- check the cover art at the bottom of the page) had something different, however -- a good idea. They said, "Hey, guys, we have somebody getting yanked apart by two semi trucks in our movie. What about listing off some other brutal and/or sadistic deaths?" I was intrigued, which is often enough to get me to put fingers to keyboard, so here we go.

The list presented below isn't definitive. These aren't necessarily the ten most brutal or sadistic deaths in a horror movie, just the ones we thought were notable. Your mileage may vary. It was written awhile ago that George Romero wanted to film reshoots that he considered extremely vital for his newest film, Land of the Dead. Well, it has just been announced that Romero has been granted access to reshoot the scenes, and indeed will begin filming them few very soon. Universal, the company responsible for releasing Land, has said that they are extremely pleased with how the film is looking so far, and have decided to grant Romero his reshoot wish in an effort to make the film look "even better".

The website known as Dark Universe has posted an interview with George Romero, as interrogated by gaming magazine Edge. In it, Romero says some interesting things about the new video game City of the Dead, which is based in his zombie universe, and talks briefly about his new film, the 4th in the Living Dead series, Land of the Dead. The interview is definitely worth a read if you even remotely like zombies, but then again, I didn't need to tell you that.(read more...)

Last week was officially the Week of Website Launches. Not only did the official website for the two upcoming Return of the Living Dead sequels (Necropolis and Rave to the Grave, both of which I am equally excited about) and the new, improved Amityville Horror remake website make their first appearances, but also, the much-anticipated Georgearomero.com was relaunched with a completely new look and some oddly-placed photos of George A. Romero Xbox and iPod skins, both of which (mark my words) I WILL own, if and when they become available to zombie lovers such as myself. George A. Romero, at one time that name was the yardstick by which independent scary movies were measured. He did not climb on any bandwagon with his first feature, Night of the Living Dead, rather he started the bandwagon! Oh, yes, many people will say "Yes, but Herschell Gordon Lewis not only did explicit gore first, he did it in colour when Romero was still directing commercials." That is quite true, but we must remember that most of these people are speaking with hindsight. H.G. Lewis had audiences in stunned silence with Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, and Color Me Blood Red 5 years before Romero and company were even planning their premiere feature.(read more...)
