Three Horror Classics Screening at Landmark Loew's Jersey City This Weekend

Landmark Loew's Jersey theater in Jersey City, NJ has some exciting screenings lined up for this coming weekend, starting October 23rd at 8:00PM with a 35mm print of Brian DePalma's Carrie and continuing October 24th with a  showing of George Waggner's The Wolf Man at 4:00PM and then Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby at 7:30PM. Tickets are $6 per screening ($4 for seniors age 65 and older), but combo packages are available for those who want to take in multiple films. "The Birds" and "Rosemary's Baby" in NOT Being Remade Shocker!

There is some good news of sorts if you were despairing of ever again seeing anything original at the cinema. The HorrorSquad website is reporting that Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes has apparently dropped plans to remake Hitchcock's The Birds and Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby.

In an interview with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, the duo behind the recent Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw remakes, as well as the upcoming new version of Nightmare on Elm Street, both appeared to suggest that the overwhelmingly negative response on the Internet was a factor

On The Birds remake, which had been slated for a 2011 release with Naomi Watts in the Tippi Hedren role, Fuller is quoted as saying "As you guys know, we lay ourselves out there and get annihilated out there online all day long, and that movie just opens us up to a whole different level of annihilation."(read more...)

Platinum Dunes Contemplates "Rosemary's" Remake

Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes, responsible for remaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror, now turns its attention to Roman Polanski's seminal thriller Rosemary's Baby. According to ShockTillYouDrop.com, they're in talks with Paramount to produce a new version of the 1968 film. Dunes is also busy with remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Birds, as well as a revisit of the Friday the 13th mythos.
