I am Nate Yapp, author of the website article you are about to read. I feel obligated to warn you that some of the sensations, some of the physical reactions which the writers on the site will feel discussing Sony's upcoming William Castle Film Collection will also be experienced, for the first time in Classic-Horror.com history, by certain members of the reading audience. I say "certain members" because some people are more sensitive to the potential awesomeness of a William Castle box set than others. These fortunate people will feel a strange, tingling sensation when they hear that the set will contain 13 Ghosts, Homicidal, Strait-Jacket, The Tingler, Mr. Sardonicus, and, making their DVD debuts, 13 Frightened Girls, The Old Dark House (1963), and Zotz!  Some will feel it less strongly than others, but only because I forgot to add that the full-length documentary Spine Tingler! Bloody-Disgusting brings the very welcome news that Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps, a film long absent from the home video market, will finally be coming out on DVD this October from Sony Home Video. According to DVD producer Michael Felsher in a chat with the horror podcast Deadpit.com, Dekker himself is putting together a director's cut that restores the original ending and that they are "going balls to the wall with the special features in it." I, for one, am excited as hell.

Night of the Creeps is an affectionate B-movie homage about alien parasites who turn their hosts into zombies. Tom Atkins himself stars as Detective Ray Cameron, a sardonic cop who gets all the best lines, including his oft-repeated greeting, "Thrill me." We'll have more news on this DVD as we get it.

Amazon.com is giving Hammer fans the opportunity to select the key art for Sony's upcoming "Icons of Horror: Hammer Films" box set. On a special voting page(read more...)

DVD Drive-in has word that Sony Home Entertainment will be releasing "Icons of Horror: Hammer Films" on October 14th. The DVD box set will contain four films (on two discs) from the classic horror studio: The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, Scream of Fear (aka Taste of Fear), and The Gorgon. No specifics on special features as of yet, but DVD Drive-in says to expect commentaries, trailers, and newly remastered transfers.

Sony Pictures showed Fangoria.com the cover art for the October 23rd DVD release of Eli Roth's Hostel: Part II. The disc will contain the full, unrated cut of the film. Additionally, it will include the following features:

• Commentary by Eli Roth
• Commentary by Roth, executive producer Quentin Tarantino, and Gabriel Roth
• Commentary by Roth and actors Lauren German, Richard Burgi, and Vera Jordanova
• Behind-the-scenes featurette
• Effects featurette
• Production design featurette
• A "blood-and-guts montage"

A Blu-ray edition released the same day will contain all of those special features plus additional "Torture Factory Footage." The suggested retail of the standard DVD is $28.95, while the SRP of the Blu-ray disc is $38.96.

DVD Drive-In has posted the cover art and a lengthy article about Sony's upcoming Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman box set. As previously reported, the box will feature four of Katzman's horror films for Columbia: The Giant Claw, Creature with the Atom Brain, Zombies of Mora Tau, and The Werewolf (1956). The set will also have a nice spread of special features, including:

• Chapter Two of Katzman's 1951 serial Mysterious Island
• Trailers for all four films
• Bonus trailers
• 1959 Mr. Magoo cartoon: "Terror Faces Magoo"
• Midnight Blunders, a rarely-seen two-reel horror-comedy from 1936

Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman is set to be released to stores on October 16th, with a list price of $24.95.

DVD Drive-In received word that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing "Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman", a set of four films made by the legendary producer for Columbia in the 1950s. Titles in the set include The Giant Claw, The Werewolf (1956), Zombies of Mora Tau, and Creature with the Atom Brain. As a bonus, one installment of Katzman's 1951 serial Mysterious Island will also be included in the set. Expect this collection to hit your local retailer on October 16th, with a suggested retail price of $24.96.

Sony Pictures will produce a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 Jack the Ripper thriller The Lodger, Variety.com reports. David Ondaatje is set to write and direct the film, which will take inspiration from the Marie Belloc Lowndes novel of the same name. However, this version of the story will be set in modern day Los Angeles and concern a copycat killer. No word yet on casting prospects.

Brad Caleb Kane has signed on to write a feature-length adaptation of Elizabeth Kostova's novel "The Historian" for Sony, Variety.com reports. Kane, who has done stints as a vocalist (Aladdin) and an actor (Starship Troopers, an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), has been making a name for himself as a screenwriter with These City Walls, a script that has been making the rounds in Hollywood. Kostova's novel involves a teenage girl delving into the work of her father: discovering the truth about Vlad the Impaler. Said producer Douglas Wick regarding their choice of screenwriter: "One of the things we've been looking for is someone who could not only capture the visceral, sexy part of the story, but who also has the talent to make it credible."
