Alfred Molina and Hope Davis have signed on to star in The Lodger, an adaptation of the Marie Belloc Lowndes novel that also inspired Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 film. In this new version, set in modern-day Los Angeles, a police detective (Molina) tries to track down a killer while a landlady (Davis) takes in an enigmatic tenant. David Ondaatje is writing and directing the film, which is being produced by the Sony imprint Stage 6 Films.

Fox Home Video will be releasing three long-awaited 1940s horror-thrillers onto DVD in time for Halloween. According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, we can expect to see The Lodger (1944), Hangover Square (1944), and The Undying Monster (1942) on shelves around October 9th, 2007. Curiously, these films are being marketed with Vincent Price's name attached, although his connections to them are tenuous -- he appeared in none of them, but did narrate or perform in radio versions of the same stories. Sony Pictures will produce a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 Jack the Ripper thriller The Lodger, Variety.com reports. David Ondaatje is set to write and direct the film, which will take inspiration from the Marie Belloc Lowndes novel of the same name. However, this version of the story will be set in modern day Los Angeles and concern a copycat killer. No word yet on casting prospects.
