Trailer and Pictures for Universal's "The Wolfman"

Universal has released the trailer for their upcoming remake The Wolfman to Yahoo! Movies. Well, they call it a trailer. I call it a plot summary. While it's exhilarating to see so much of the original 1941 The Wolf Man in place (Larry Talbot having an American accent, the gypsy woman, the Welsh setting), it also feels like all of the elements that are new to this version have been spelled out. Tribute Video: Peter Cushing as Victor Frankenstein

This weekend I'm at Vividcon, a Chicago-based convention devoted to the art of fanvidding. Just a few hours ago, my latest concoction, a tribute to the Hammer Frankenstein series, debuted and I think it was pretty well received. Set to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now," the video is a slightly cheeky ode to mad science and the greatest of all mad scientists, Peter Cushing as Victor Frankenstein. I've embedded the vid below. Review: Road Games (1981)

Director Richard Franklin has openly confessed that his Road Games is an "Alfred Hitchcock derivative." Replacing Jimmy Stewart's apartment view in Rear Window with the fly-splattered windscreen of an 8-wheel truck, Road Games hurtles into a world of obsession, mistaken identity and psycho killers as if the master himself were in the passenger seat. But the sheer unhinged energy Franklin injects into the narrative make this more than just a simple pastiche. This is Hitchcock at 80mph and it doesn't let up for a second.(read more...)

Gary Sherman ("Death Line") Interview

Gary Sherman never wanted to direct horror movies. But like all filmmakers who are perhaps a little too good at what they do, he got stuck in a particular genre's tangled web. Sherman is, of course, the man behind such cult classics as the London Underground-set Death Line and the Ron Shusett & Dan O'Bannon (of Alien fame) penned Dead & Buried. Both films displayed an eerie, slow-burning approach to horror that left fans in little doubt that he was one of the genre's true masters. But despite directing the extreme violence of Vice Squad, the ill-fated Poltergeist III (one of the last films to use entirely in-camera special effects), and the DV cam serial killer flick 39: A Film by Carroll McKane, Master of Horror was a mantle Sherman didn't want. Here he talks to Classic-Horror about his involvement with the genre, and his long standing desire to finally break free of it.(read more...)

"Mad Monster Party" Special Edition DVD Coming Sept. 8

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release a new special edition of Rankin-Bass's horror-themed animated movie Mad Monster Party on September 8th, 2009, according to DVDActive. The DVD, which has a suggested retail price of $14.98, will include a featurette (Groovy Ghouls: The Making of Mad Monster Party), the theatrical trailer, and two sing-alongs.

Baron Von Frankenstein (voice of Boris Karloff) has decided to retire as the head of the Worldwide Organization of Monsters. But first, he must inform the other monsters about his plans. How to deliver the news? How else - through a Mad Monster Party! Von Frankenstein’s guests include a who’s who of Halloween favorites, including The Werewolf, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Mummy, The Invisible Man and more. But who among them is fit to be the new head of the monsters?

Classic-Horror.com Podcast #1

Call this an interesting experiment. A few months ago, I had a notion to start up a regular podcast for Classic-Horror.com. To that end, I bought the necessary equipment and audio software, rang up my good buddy Tenebrous Kate, and recorded what you might call a "pilot episode." Although Kate and I had a lot of fun, the post-production turned out to be a pain (let's just say that this recording took place more than two months ago), so this is likely to be a very irregular feature. Review: Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971)

What a glorious mish-mash this is! Dracula vs. Frankenstein began life as Satan's Bloody Freaks, a standard mad science flick featuring J. Carrol Naish as a mad scientist and Lon Chaney, Jr as his faithful servant. However, the completed film was not to the liking of producer/co-writer Samuel M. Sherman, and the movie went back into production to add new scenes with Dracula and the Frankenstein Monster. However, the new ending didn't have the "punch" that Sherman wanted, so a new one was shot with a different actor in the Monster's makeup. "The Exorcist" Set for Blu-Ray Appearance

The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen Before on Blu-Ray later this year. The disc will hit shops on September 8th, but there is no news yet on what special features it will have, what the artwork will look like, or whether the original version will also get a high-definition makeover.
