Trevor Matthews and Jon Knautz (Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer) interview

Jack Brooks Monster Slayer poster

The horror-comedy Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer just wrapped up a three-city limited release in preparation for the DVD from Anchor Bay which hits shelves October 7th, 2008. The film, directed by Jon Knautz from a screenplay he co-wrote with John Ainsley, stars Trevor Matthews (who also has story and producer credits on the flick) as a plumber who must battle horrific beasties unwittingly unleashed by Professor Crowley (Robert Englund) upon a junior college. At Comic-Con this year, we had the opportunity to sit down with Matthews and Knautz (as well as the non-talkative composer Ryan Shore and producer Patrick White) and ask them about their wild and crazy film.

Classic-Horror: Who wants to tell me a little bit about what Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer is about?

Trevor Matthews: I don't think anyone wants to tell you anything about that.

Rob Hall and Bobbi Sue Luther (Laid to Rest) interview

Laid to Rest poster

After fifteen years in the makeup effects industry, Rob Hall made the move to the director's chair in 2004 with Lightning Bug, a coming-of-age drama loosely based on his own teen years. Now, for his second go-round at the helm of a feature film, Hall (who also heads up the effects studio Almost Human) dives into the realm of all-out horror with Laid to Rest, a slasher movie starring his wife, Bobbi Sue Luther, as well as Lena Headey and Thomas Dekker of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and genre stalwart Richard Lynch. The film has been picked up by Anchor Bay for distribution at some time in the near future.

We able to sit down with Rob Hall and Bobbi Sue Luther at San Diego Comic-Con and ask them about Laid to Rest, their sources of inspiration, and Hall's transition from makeup guru to director.

Classic-Horror: Tell me a little about what Laid to Rest is about.

Final "Hatchet" Poster

Hatchet Poster (Final)

Anchor Bay has released a new poster for their upcoming theatrical release Hatchet. The new art isn't that different than the old art; the main differences are the tagline at the top ("It's not a remake, it's not a sequel...") has been changed to Harry Knowles' quote about Victor Crowley and the axe has been subtly altered to increase its impressiveness.

Hatchet comes out in limited release on September 7th. Find out where you can see it at the official Hatchet website.
