Cover Art and Details for Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman DVD

Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman

DVD Drive-In has posted the cover art and a lengthy article about Sony's upcoming Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman box set. As previously reported, the box will feature four of Katzman's horror films for Columbia: The Giant Claw, Creature with the Atom Brain, Zombies of Mora Tau, and The Werewolf (1956). The set will also have a nice spread of special features, including:

  • Chapter Two of Katzman's 1951 serial Mysterious Island
  • Trailers for all four films
  • Bonus trailers
  • 1959 Mr. Magoo cartoon: "Terror Faces Magoo"
  • Midnight Blunders, a rarely-seen two-reel horror-comedy from 1936

Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman is set to be released to stores on October 16th, with a list price of $24.95.

DVD Active has posted the cover art for the Weinstein Company's 2-Disc Special Edition of Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof, the second (and lesser) of the two films in Grindhouse. According to Fangoria.com, DVD is expected to include the extended Cannes cut of the film, including the "missing reel" and other new scenes. A number of featurettes will populate the second disc, as well as a trailer for the documentary Double Dare.

Sony to Release Sam Katzman DVD Box Set

DVD Drive-In received word that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing "Icons of Horror: Sam Katzman", a set of four films made by the legendary producer for Columbia in the 1950s. Titles in the set include The Giant Claw, The Werewolf (1956), Zombies of Mora Tau, and Creature with the Atom Brain. As a bonus, one installment of Katzman's 1951 serial Mysterious Island will also be included in the set. Expect this collection to hit your local retailer on October 16th, with a suggested retail price of $24.96.

Twisted Terror DVDs from Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has announced the "Twisted Terror" collection, six horror DVDs available as either a set or individually on September 25th. Included in the collection are a number of much-awaited titles making their DVD debut, such as Wes Craven's Deadly Friend (1986), Oliver Stone's The Hand (1981), the Amicus anthology From Beyond the Grave (1973), the John Carpenter TV movie Someone's Watching Me (1978), and Eyes of a Stranger (1981), featuring makeup effects by Tom Savini. The only film in the set that has had a previous DVD release is Manny Coto's Dr. Giggles (1992), although the old Good Times disc has been out of print for some time.

The films should retail for $14.97 individually or $49.92 collected in the box set.

Midnite Movie DVD Covers Galore!

The folks over at DVD Drive-In have posted a treasure chest's worth of covers for the September 11th Midnite Movie releases. The most interesting thing about the images is that it looks like 20th Century Fox is using their distribution deal with MGM to co-opt the Midnite Movies brand-name. New "Misery" Collector's Edition DVD

Misery, Rob Reiner's 1990 adaptation of the same-named Stephen King novel, will be receiving a brand-new collector's edition DVD, according the King fansite Lilja's Library. The disc will contain two commentary tracks, one by Reiner and the other by screenwriter William Goldman, as well as numerous featurettes. The featurettes include:

  • "Misery Loves Company"
  • "Marc Shaiman's Musical Misery Tour"
  • "Diagnosing Annie Wilkes"
  • "Advice for the Stalked"
  • "Profile of a Stalker"
  • "Celebrity Stalkers"
  • "Anti-Stalking Laws"

DVD Art for Dark Sky's "Spider Baby"

Fangoria.com has the cover art for Dark Sky's new Spider Baby DVD, to be released on September 25th. As we reported earlier, the disc will include audio commentary by director Jack Hill and star Sid Haig and three featurettes. Additionally, there will be a still gallery, an alternate opening sequence, and an extended scene featuring footage not seen in the film.

More on MGM's Vincent Price and Roger Corman Box Sets

DVD Drive-In has the scoop on MGM's upcoming Vincent Price and Roger Corman box sets. The Price set is being advertised as part of MGM's "Scream Legends Collection", which indicates we could see more box sets of a similar nature in the future. Films in the set include The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Dr. Phibes Rises Again, Tales of Terror, Twice-Told Tales, Theatre of Blood, Madhouse, and the new special edition of The Witchfinder General. An extras disc will contain a documentary ("Vincent Price: Renaissance Man") and two featurettes ("The Art of Fear" and "Working with Vincent Price"). Final Poster for "The Invasion"

Cinematical has posted what they report as the final poster for the upcoming Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake, The Invasion. The film, due to come out August 17th, stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. The plot concerns an alien disease which robs the infected of their humanity.
