Anyone dying for a glimpse at the latest installment in the ongoing Saw saga should head over to Yahoo Movies where the teaser trailer has been posted. The trailer clocks in at 53 seconds and doesn't tell you a lot about the film, other than the fact that there will be people writhing in pain and agony.(read more...)

Lionsgate has released a new poster for Saw IV, the latest entry in the Saw series. Here we see what appears to be Jigsaw's head in a pan. This is a slightly altered version of this poster, unveiled about a month ago.

In Saw IV, Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead. Upon the news of Detective Kerry's murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) and Agent Perez, arrive at the depleted police precinct and help veteran Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) sift through Jigsaw's latest grizzly game of victims and piece together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), is suddenly abducted and thrust into the madman's harrowing game, the officer has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of interconnected traps... or face the deadly consequences.(read more...)

Lionsgate presented a look at Midnight Meat Train at their Comic-Con panel Thursday. Based on Clive Barker's short story from Books of Blood, the movie follows photographer Leon Kauffman (Bradley Cooper) as he stalks serial killer Mahogany (Vinnie Jones).

Mahogany works in a meat factory by day and on the subway at night, where he "gets victims on the train and takes them to a special place to feed people." Further research outside the panel clarified that Mahogany is turning his victims into meat to feed subterranean cannibals.

Director Ryuhei Kitamura says his goal was to "make something better than Hellraiser and Candyman." Apparently he has succeeded - Clive Barker says of Midnight Meat Train, "This is the best adaptation - and I'm including my own work - of any short fiction that I've ever seen."

Shooting for another Books of Blood short story, "Pig Blood Blues," begins in October.

Sometimes, we get contacted to do an article to coincide with the release of a theatrical film or DVD. Most of the time, we don't do it because we either don't have any ideas or there are no good ideas for that particular movie. The PR folks for Universal's recent remake of The Hitcher (coming out on DVD May 1st -- check the cover art at the bottom of the page) had something different, however -- a good idea. They said, "Hey, guys, we have somebody getting yanked apart by two semi trucks in our movie. What about listing off some other brutal and/or sadistic deaths?" I was intrigued, which is often enough to get me to put fingers to keyboard, so here we go.

The list presented below isn't definitive. These aren't necessarily the ten most brutal or sadistic deaths in a horror movie, just the ones we thought were notable. Your mileage may vary. Wow, this came quickly -- about a week after the release of Saw on DVD, the official website for Saw 2 has already gone live, and you can check it out at http://www.saw2.com . Granted, there's not much on the site as of yet (besides a message board and a mailing list, that is), but it is a sign that we'll be seeing a lot more information about this sequel very soon. When any more updates on Saw 2 arise, check this here Haunted Newsreel and you'll surely know about them.

I regret from the bottom of my deepest clavicle not going to see Saw during its theatrical run. It seems as if everyone is rubbing it in, too, because all I hear everywhere I go is how awesome the film was. I get the point, I screwed up by not going out and viewing it. Now, however, I am in luck, because Bloody-disgusting.com has reported that the film is coming to DVD, though a specific date is strangely not listed.(read more...)

Lions Gate Films are pretty much single-handedly keeping the genre of horror… real horror alive. In fact, it's hard to find a horror film these days that isn't being released by Lions Gate. To further illustrate my point, here are recently announced release dates for four highly anticipated Lions Gate films:

Haute Tension - June 3rd, 2005
The Devil's Rejects - August 12th, 2005
Undead - Now listed as "coming soon," so who knows
Saw 2 - October 28th, 2005

Grooviness. I'm very excited about the first three films on that list. As for Saw 2, I still have yet to see the first one, so I'll save my anticipation for the sequel until I view the film that spawned it.
