Audition is genius director Takashi Miike's most popular film (and really, the film that made his name known in America). "Hatchet" a Slasher Actor Bonanza

If you're a fan of the classic slasher franchises A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Candyman, then this news tidbit is most certainly for you. You see, there's a new film going into production called Hatchet, and not only will it feature the fan-favorite actor that portrayed Mr.(read more...)

Rob Zombie's Blog

Whether you're into Rob Zombie or his highly hyped new film, The Devil's Rejects, or both the man and the movie, you're going to want to check out this very interesting method that Lion's Gate Films has set up in an effort to get their directors to speak a little more personally with fans than a mere press release: an online journal. It seems everyone in Internetville is getting one these days, but hey, when Rob Zombie gets one, I've no reason to complain!(read more...)

Review: Cursed (2005)

Cursed poster

After years of delays, it turns out that Cursed is not worth its weight in silver. Hell, it's not even worth your time. As much as I admire Wes Craven when he's at his best (New Nightmare), when the master misses the mark, he misses by a mile. Cursed isn't Craven's worst film -- that dubious honor falls on Vampire in Brooklyn -- but it's only better than Vampire by a crotch sniff.(read more...)

Review: Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)

Hellbound: Hellraiser II poster

What's so surprising about the Hellraiser franchise (if we may call it such) is that no sequel is a repeat performance of its predecessor. No - forget the parentheses: it should not be placed on the same level as Halloween or Friday the 13th, admirable though these franchises may be. For each film has a fresh hell to offer us. Hellraiser's was restricted to one house: a contained, private hell. Hellraiser II takes us to greater depths, as Hellraiser's dynamic teen heroine Kirsty faces the Cenobites on their own turf.(read more...)

Review: Seed of Chucky (2004)

Seed of Chucky poster

It’s hard to take a film seriously when the tagline is “Get a Load of Chucky.” But the good thing about Seed of Chucky, I suppose, is that it doesn’t ask you to take it all that seriously. In that regard, Seed is a refreshing and funny horror film that isn’t quite on par with 1998’s super-cool Bride of Chucky, but is nevertheless a skillfully conceived entry in the long-running Child’s Play series.(read more...)

Review: Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Night of the Living Dead 1968 poster

It's rare when a movie transcends pop culture's usual 15 minutes of fame and becomes a time-tested classic. It's rarer still when the movie is a low-budget, black and white independent feature produced so far off Hollywood's radar that it didn't receive national distribution. What this particular little movie had going for it was a fresh, talented director and the public's hitherto undiscovered phobia about and fascination with flesh eating zombies! Filmed in 1967 by then fledgling director George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead is a film that while raw in some of its production, was and is spot-on in evoking the most dreadful and deep-seeded of frights.(read more...)

Tarantino Not Attached to "Friday the 13th" Sequel

t is quite a rare occurrence for me to actually become pissed--and I mean pissed as in slamming my fist on the computer desk and growling in anger--as a result of reading some recent movie news, but Quentin Tarantino has made the inner, ultra-obsessive nerd in me very, very angry, and me no like. You see, recently I reported on Quentin Tarantino's possible involvement with a new Friday the 13th film. The rumor was, as they say, a fanboy's wet dream, but about two days after first reporting the glorious rumor, my hopes for a fresh, new, and truly unique entry into the Friday the 13th series were squelched like a puny human under Kong's foot, as Empire Online asked Tarantino himself whether or not his involvement with Friday was true…and the answer sucked. Here's what Quentin said:(read more...)
