DVDs for "Hangover Square", "The Lodger", and "The Undying Monster"

Fox Home Video will be releasing three long-awaited 1940s horror-thrillers onto DVD in time for Halloween. According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, we can expect to see The Lodger (1944), Hangover Square (1944), and The Undying Monster (1942) on shelves around October 9th, 2007. Curiously, these films are being marketed with Vincent Price's name attached, although his connections to them are tenuous -- he appeared in none of them, but did narrate or perform in radio versions of the same stories. These radio programs will be included with each film.(read more...)

Robert Englund Interview

Robert Englund

Robert Englund is one of the legends of modern horror. The name "Freddy Krueger" is all the introduction he really needs, but his contributions to the genre extend far beyond that, not only as an actor, but as an enthusiast. We caught up with him at San Diego Comic-Con International while he was promoting Adam Green's upcoming slasher film Hatchet, in which he has a small role.

JJ Abrams to Produce Supernatural Thriller

JJ Abrams, already hard at work producing the untitled horror film codenamed Cloverfield as well as directing the latest Star Trek film, will produce a supernatural thriller for Paramount, Variety.com reports. The as-yet untitled film will be based on a pitch by Josh Marston (Maria Full of Grace), who is also set to write and direct the film. No details are known about what the plot will involve, but a tight lip has become a trademark of Abrams' producing deal with Paramount.

Marston is also developing a movie based on the Jonathan Lethem novel "Fortress of Solitude."

Nicole Kidman Set for Remake of Colombian Horror Film

Universal is developing a remake of Juan Felipe Orozco's Al final del espectro for Nicole Kidman to produce and star in, Variety.com reports. Orozco's original film, which does not yet have distribution in the United States, involves a woman who, after a traumatic incident, becomes an agoraphobic shut-in -- which is the least of her problems once she starts seeing a ghost around her apartment. Orozco is expected to direct the remake as well. Fernley Phillips (The Number 23) will write the screenplay.(read more...)

"Hatchet" Director Adam Green Interview

Adam Green newsreel pic

Director Adam Green's Hatchet is making waves in the horror community more for what it isn't than what it is: it's not a remake, it's not a sequel, and it's not PG-13. It's an honest-to-gosh R-rated slasher movie, starring honest-to-gosh horror icons Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Tony Todd, about a group of tourists who run afoul of  Victor Crowley (Hodder), a deformed killer who haunts the bayous of Louisiana. The film's fans have built the "Hatchet Army" to show their support for fresh material on the silver scream. Television star Milo Ventimiglia could be seen in a Hatchet Army t-shirt during the "Heroes" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and after witnessing the Hatchet panel (check out Julia's full report) at the same convention, I'm ready to get a shirt for myself.(read more...)
