Romero Talks About "Land of the Dead" and Zombie Video Game

The website known as Dark Universe has posted an interview with George Romero, as interrogated by gaming magazine Edge. In it, Romero says some interesting things about the new video game City of the Dead, which is based in his zombie universe, and talks briefly about his new film, the 4th in the Living Dead series, Land of the Dead. Tarantino in Talks for "Friday the 13th" Sequel?

This could be quite possibly the best news the entire genre of horror has seen in the last decade: Quentin Tarantino, the Oscar-winning director of such as films as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and most recently Kill Bill, is in talks to direct the next entry in the Friday the 13th franchise! Tarantino was rumored to start meeting with New Line Cinema as early as last week to discuss some ideas he has for what will be the 11th Friday the 13th film (not counting Freddy vs. Jason). The film is tentatively titled "The Ultimate Jason Voorhees Movie," but I'm hoping they'll change the title as further development of this Voorhees-fest progresses.

As usual, expect more news on this movie in future editions of Haunted Newsreel.

New Line Purchases Rights to Make New "Phantasm" Films

In even more New Line news, the studio has recently announced that they have purchased the rights to the Phantasm phranchise, and are planning to relaunch it as a possible trilogy! Reggie Bannister, star of Phantasm and all of its sequels, has been chatting with a few horror sites and has made it clear that this relaunch is certainly a relaunch-and not a remake. Damn, this week has rocked for horror! The big question now, however, is: will Angus Scrimm be reprising his role as the Tall Man?

"Saw II" Website Live

Wow, this came quickly -- about a week after the release of Saw on DVD, the official website for Saw 2 has already gone live, and you can check it out at http://www.saw2.com . Granted, there's not much on the site as of yet (besides a message board and a mailing list, that is), but it is a sign that we'll be seeing a lot more information about this sequel very soon. "Oldboy" Coming to the USA

The winner of the 2004 Cannes Special Jury Prize is finally getting a theatrical release in the United States. Oldboy, a psychological tale of revenge and murder, opens on March 25th in New York, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco, gradually expanding to other major cities in the following weeks. "High Tension" Gets Cut, Dubbed

If you follow the horror genre closely, you've no doubt heard of and/or seen previews for Lions Gate Films' High Tension. Perhaps you heard that the film would be arriving in American theatres with an NC-17 rating. Well, about that… Dread Central recently contacted Lions Gate when a rumor popped up about High Tension being cut down to an R for its American release. Turns out that the rumor was true. Not only will High Tension receive an R rating, but it will also now be dubbed in English, as opposed to being in French with English subtitles. Personally, I would have preferred subtitles, but whaddya gonna do?

"The Devil's Rejects" Release Date Moved Up

As a huge House of 1000 Corpses fan, I excitedly search the web daily for any new news of its sequel, The Devil's Rejects, so I was obviously overjoyed when I gained the following bit of knowledge: Rejects has moved its release date from August 12th to a much sooner July 22nd! That means that fans everywhere will be able to glare at their favorite family of deranged freaks three weeks sooner than originally planned!

Websites Launch for Zombies, Their Master, and a Haunted House

Last week was officially the Week of Website Launches. Not only did the official website for the two upcoming Return of the Living Dead sequels (Necropolis and Rave to the Grave, both of which I am equally excited about) and the new, improved Amityville Horror remake website make their first appearances, but also, the much-anticipated Georgearomero.com was relaunched with a completely new look and some oddly-placed photos of George A. Romero Xbox and iPod skins, both of which (mark my words) I WILL own, if and when they become available to zombie lovers such as myself.
